Music Makes Me Merry

The power of music is great. When you are depressed, music can cheer you up. When you want to raise your motivation to do something, music can help you too. Today, I’m going tell you about my favorite musicians and make the question clear what kinds of effects does music have.

First my favorite music group is Red Hot Chili Peppers. RHCP are an American rock band grouped in Los Angeles, California in 1983. Their music style is consisted of rock with a pointed on funk, as well as other genres like punk rock, psychedelic rock and so on. RHCP have achieved seven Grammy Awards, and sold over 80 million records all over the world. Especially their live performances are so cool!! There is nothing like seeing for oneself. I attached the link of a YouTube page of RHCP. When you have a time to watch, you can go the page.

Second musician is Hikaru Utada. She is one of the most famous Japanese singers. She was born in Manhattan and grew up until 1997 in the US. She is known by her artist name, Utada in Europe and the US. Her Japanese debut album, First Love, went on to become the best-selling album in Japanese music history. She was considered "the most influential artist of the decade" by The Japan Times In 2009. She released a few English albums and it is said that the English spoken by Utada is the most beautiful for the Japanese people.

Then why people listen to music? As I describe at first, people will probably listen to their favorite music when they want to take their good emotional balance. In my case, I often listen to the music of RHCP when I want to encourage myself, and I choice Utada’s music if I want to calm down. Like this, music is a sort of "prescription" for us. Nowadays, some researchers discovered that there is a strong relationship between a sort of hormone in the brain and music the person likes. When you enjoy music which stirs you, a kind of chemical hormone called dopamine is released by the brain. The chemical reaction helps the parts of your brain which convey emotional things lively. In short, thanks to listening to a certain group of notes, the reactions have your brain to feel better. Even though music has a scientific reason, you cannot listen to your favorite musics during your classes!!
